Candida Höfer
vs. S&P 500
Candida Höfer (German, b.1944) is an internationally recognized photographer, whose large-format images of architectural interiors address the psychological environment of social and cultural institutions. The subjects of her work are often museums, libraries, universities, theaters, civic centers, and other public spaces designed to accommodate and inform the public. Since 2000, Höfer's auction market has outperformed the S&P 500, seeing returns as high as 210%. In November 2013, Bibliothèque Administrative de la Ville de Paris I (2007) sold for approximately US$84,000 at Phillips London, US$25,000 over the high estimate.
With artnet Analytics, you can benchmark the performance of your favorite photographers against the S&P 500, Dow Jones, or other assets such as wine.

Andres Serrano
"Even though I consider myself a conceptual artist, I am a traditionalist when it comes to photography. I like to use film and shoot straight. No technical gimmicks or special effects. What you see is what I saw when I looked though the camera. If I've dazzled you with lights and colors, it's because I've dazzled you with lights and colors. Ideas are more important than effects. And effects are always better when they're real."
